We passed from Czechoslovakia to Munich, Germany, illegally within the framework of “Brichah,” or Flight. Organized by the survivors themselves, and aided by the Jewish Brigade, the Jews of Israel and the United States, we traveled across national borders, frequently at night, avoiding detection by the British, who prohibited our entering Palestine. But we had nowhere else to go. While in Munich, waiting to continue our journey, I worked as an instructor in my special field. I taught electroplating in a vocational school sponsored by ORT. This organization for rehabilitation and training re-opened its schools immediately following the war’s end. The aim was to teach youths and adults new skills to help them rebuild their lives.
